BLUE AGAVE

The Agave have been used by the inhabitants of Mesoamerica since about 9000 years (Callen 1965, cited by Gentry 1982). In general, before the arrival of the Spanish utility of loa Agave was for the production of sugars and fibers. The genus Agave, which means in Greek: "noble" or "admirable" was made known to science by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753 (Breitung 1968). The plants of the genus Agave are originating from the Western Hemisphere, with the greatest concentration of species native to Mexico where they are known by the common names of "maguey" or "MEZCALES." Agave species important in the production of fibers are the "henequen" (Agave fourcroides) and Agave sisalana (Gentry 1982). However, these natural fibers are being displaced by synthetic fibers. In recent years, there have been hundreds of hectares cultivated in western Mexico with Agave Tequilana and other related species, whose stems are distilled liquor called tequila (McVaugh, 1989)

WHAT IS TEQUILA?

Tequila, agave syrup, is a liquor distilled from the city of the same name in the Mexican state of Jalisco, being able to find varieties amber and colorless. It is a famous Mexican alcohol that can be found in most bars on the planet. It has a unique taste and has strong citrus element.

Like the mezcal, Tequila is made from fermented and distilled from the juice extracted from agave, including the so-called blue agave (agave Tequilana (Caducifolia.ssp.tequilana.cv.azul)), with designation of origin in five states of Mexico (Guanajuato, Michoacan, Tamaulipas, Nayarit and indeed throughout the state of Jalisco as in the previous four alone can occur in some municipalities). It is perhaps the most famous drink is representative of Mexico in the world.

Tequila sunrise (cocktail)

Is a cocktail made in two different ways, the original (tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice and soda water) and the more popular concoction (tequila, orange juice, and grenadine syrup). Originally served at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, the cocktail is named for the way it looks after it has been poured into a glass. The denser ingredients (cassis or grenadine) settle, creating gradations in color that mimic a sunrise.
